In The Garden

What an exquisite song, one of Van Morrison‘s truly perfect pieces of meditative music.  ’In The Garden’ appears on the 1986 album ‘No Guru No Method No Teacher.’ The title of the album may have been his answer to fans and media who wanted to know who he followed – or maybe not! There’s little point in trying to analyse his music – it is always better to listen and allow it to speak at the point of its intention, a deeper place.

Lighting up

In 1987 Van Morrison organised a conference at Loughborough University called the ‘The Secret Heart Of Music’ exploring the power of music to change consciousness. Despite his efforts, it was reported that he couldn’t or wouldn’t engage in the workshops. I smiled when I read that.

Van Morrison may look like a grumpy cab driver but man can he sing, and he can write a bit too!

’7. And as it touched your

cheeks so lightly

Born again you were and

blushed and we touched

each other lightly

And we felt the presence

Of the Christ

Within our hearts

In the garden.’

Thanks for liking my blog. Yours looks pretty cool. I’ll have to read more.

Van is one of my all time favorites, but I always thought of him as a hard-rock 60s guy…
